When you visit a doctor, you would expect him or her to have a good understanding of what they practice through what they have learned through many years of studying. When it comes to IT support companies the same should be apparent.
Through my many dealings with IT technicians throughout the many years I have been working in the IT industry, I have met numerous IT technicians without proper qualifications. These IT technicians have a very broad role in what they do so the right qualifications are very important to a successful outcome. Should the question be why do they think one qualification is sufficient? Surely when you deal with all the various aspects of IT - security, networks, hardware and software you should be qualified in all these areas.
So what qualifications does an IT support technician need to successfully do their job? Industry recognized qualifications through recognized learning providers relevant to the industry of course.
Typically the minimum would be:
- Comptia A+ computer hardware and software
- Comptia N+ network management
- Microsoft - MCSA
- Comptia Security+ Computer security
Naturally there are many courses that serves the same function and delves deeper into various aspects of IT. The certifications outlined are a list of well known and recognized industry qualifications.
With these qualifications an IT support technician should have enough knowledge to troubleshoot and remedy most it related issues that arise.
